THIS DARKNESS, by EDITH LOMBARD SQUIRES First Line: I am not reconciled to this brief dust Last Line: Adventuring this darkness, to the sun. Subject(s): Death; Dead, The | ||||||||
I am not reconciled to this brief dust, Nor ever will be till my heart is dumb. Not reconciled to face death's final thrust, Leaving unanswered life's bewildering sum. Not reconciled to have the future say, "Was this her rainbow, this her crock of gold?" How soon my treasures of another day Will lie forgotten in the earth's dark mould! I have lived passionately, cradled sorrow, And held the door against the wolves of doom -- Yet this is not enough, nor will tomorrow Remember, save in passing, death's small room. I am not reconciled, yet I would run, Adventuring this darkness, to the sun. | Other Poems of Interest...DOUBLE ELEGY by MICHAEL S.
