Thus spake a man in days of old:
I will believe that God can be
The kind, the just, that we are told,
If he will throw down here to me
A bag of gold --

But when his wife rose from her bed
To see what kept her man away,
She found him, with a broken head:
And on the ground beside him lay
...A bag of lead!
