FOR BEAUTY'S LOVER, by ZUELLA STERLING First Line: Should you be beauty's lover, vainly shut Last Line: Your step will make upon the frozen ground. Subject(s): Beauty | ||||||||
Should you be Beauty's lover, vainly shut In dingy canyons with the hurrying crowd -- Who sees the steel-hard eyes that pierce and cut Through pinioned spirit till the soul is bowed, Come home, and trace new patterns in the glen, Of patchwork leaves strewn round the Princess Pines, And sepia seed pods clustered down the fen In company with tangled clematis vines. Where orange toadstools cling to old, gray wood, And only footfalls of the brown deer pass, Walk quietly, for Beauty here has stood And turned the pools to panes of frosted glass So thin they almost shatter at the sound Your step will make upon the frozen ground. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN DIVINELY SUPERFLUOUS BEAUTY by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE BEAUTY OF THINGS by ROBINSON JEFFERS HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS LIFE FROM THE LIFELESS by ROBINSON JEFFERS REARMAMENT by ROBINSON JEFFERS SHANE ONEILLS CAIRN by ROBINSON JEFFERS |
