Now Mrs. Jones, she say to me, "Did you ever write poetry?" And I say to her I sez, sez I, "No, I never did, but I can have a try." So that very evening, just after tea, I settled myself on the old settee, By a bright wood fire, with pencil and pad; My heart was happy, and my heart was glad. And I sez to myself, "Why, any dub Can write a poem for that Woman's Club." I thought and I thought, but I thought in vain, But who ever heard of a poet with the name of Strain? I met her next day and I sez, sez I, "Well, I gave it a thought and I gave it a try, But I wasn't cut out for a bard, you see, So get Fay Butler to write your poetry." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ENVY OF OTHER PEOPLE'S POEMS by ROBERT HASS THE NINETEENTH CENTURY AS A SONG by ROBERT HASS THE FATALIST: TIME IS FILLED by LYN HEJINIAN OXOTA: A SHORT RUSSIAN NOVEL: CHAPTER 192 by LYN HEJINIAN LET ME TELL YOU WHAT A POEM BRINGS by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA JUNE JOURNALS 6/25/88 by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA FOLLOW ROZEWICZ by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA HAVING INTENDED TO MERELY PICK ON AN OIL COMPANY, THE POEM GOES AWRY by HICOK.
