BIRTH OF SPRING, by ALICE TAFT STROWD First Line: Raging blasts of rain and sleet Last Line: Spring has come again on earth. Subject(s): Spring | ||||||||
Raging blasts of rain and sleet, March winds swirling round my feet -- Sunshine just behind a cloud, Rivers roaring wild and loud; Mud and frost and sulky days, Spring proclaims her fickle ways. Wind in tumult mad and high, Laughs against an azure sky. Bold pedestrians venture out, Gasp for breath, then turn about. Children cry with bitten toes, Reddened eye and frosted nose; Nature in the thrall of pain, Giving birth to spring again -- Wildest March awakes in me Vibrant chords of sympathy. Welcome this tempestuous birth, Spring has come again on earth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SPRING LEMONADE by TONY HOAGLAND A SPRING SONG by LYMAN WHITNEY ALLEN SPRING'S RETURN by GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD SPRING FLOODS by MAURICE BARING SPRING IN WINTER by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES SPRING ON THE PRAIRIE by HERBERT BATES THE FARMER'S BOY: SPRING by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD INTERLUDE by ALICE TAFT STROWD |
