'Bus No. 12
Take my nostalgia
From Montmartre to Grenelle
Or from Calvaire to L'Étoile
You who never reach the terminal!
Your motor-heart beats in accord with mine
While you are winging
The hydrants
Cry: Fire!
Feeling the burning essence
Of your soul
The Posters of Cook and Sons smile:
"From Paris to Cairo in 7 days—
Steamers de luxe: France
Leaves the 27th
Casino to Tahiti ..."
The Pathéphone sings
Two bars of Il Trovatore.
And farther along
The scent of the Market-Place:
Coral, sea-fish,
The dunes of youth,
Sea-shells of youth
O pineapple forests
And adventure!

Wait, 'Bus No. 12, stop!
But it rolls steadily on
Like destiny.
Pithecanthropus
Antediluvian, mystic bird
Take my nostalgia
From Calvaire to L'Étoile
Without terminal,
'Bus No. 12,
My lover!
