VACATION, by MRS. A. J. STUKENBERG First Line: I love to lie beside a babbling brook Last Line: I realize the presence of my god. Subject(s): Vacation | ||||||||
I love to lie beside a babbling brook, Where spreads a canopy of leafy boughs, And listen to the twittering goldfinch gay -- The while I browse the pages of a book, Or dream perchance of love and you afar, Or watch the coming of the evening star. Such leisure brings both rest and rich content -- My face uplifted to the vast unknown -- My thoughts go drifting on in rhythmic mood -- Refreshing breezes bring a woodsy scent; Lying alone, head pillowed on green sod, I realize the presence of my God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BUFFALO - ISLE OF WIGHT POWER CABLE by ANSELM HOLLO WHEN THE VACATION IS OVER FOR GOOD by MARK STRAND BACK FROM VACATION by JOHN UPDIKE SEPULCHRE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON |
