HOUND AND HARE, by F. B. SUTHERLAND First Line: The hounds of earth have chased their prey Last Line: You hunters of the hare. Subject(s): Animals; Hunting; Hunters | ||||||||
The hounds of earth have chased their prey Unto the nether wall And now they stand hoarse-voiced at bay The game must fight or fall. And fight they will, for life is sweet And no one knows to what white heat The poor will rise when pressed by fear Of losing all they hold most dear. Therefore I say beware, beware, You hunters of the hare. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE LAMENT OF QUARRY by LEONIE ADAMS KILLDEER by KENNETH SLADE ALLING THE YOUNG FOWLER THAT MISTOOK HIS GAME by PHILIP AYRES A POEM ABOUT THE HOUNDS AND THE HARES by LISEL MUELLER THE PRODIGAL SON by DAVID IGNATOW |
