When Sorrow came on tip-toe to my door, I heard him falter ere he touched the latch. He thought that he would take me by surprise And so quite naturally he felt abashed. But even Sorrow knows the press of duty; So presently he pushed the door aside, Crossed quietly and stood beside my elbow Amazed to find me waiting him dry-eyed. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SONOMA FIRE by JANE HIRSHFIELD AS THE SPARKS FLY UPWARDS by JOHN HOLLANDER WHAT GREAT GRIEF HAS MADE THE EMPRESS MUTE by JUNE JORDAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 19 by JAMES JOYCE DIRGE AT THE END OF THE WOODS by LEONIE ADAMS BLIND GIRL TO A SYMPATHIZER by DOROTHY HARIMAN SUTTON |
