IN MONMOUTH, by
First Line: In monmouth, in monmouth
Last Line: "cuckoo, cuckoo."
Subject(s): Birds; Cuckoos; Spring

In Monmouth, in Monmouth
I heard the cuckoo call --
'Twas in the greying twilight
When night begins to fall;
He called aloud in passing,
I stood beneath the yew
And caught his wing-tossed greeting --
"Cuckoo, cuckoo."

I'm far away from Monmouth,
Yet every Spring of year,
If I but listen closely,
I fancy I can hear
Beyond the rippling breezes
The murmur of the yew,
And just above an echo --
"Cuckoo, cuckoo."
