HELEN; THE LABORATORY OF FAUST AT WITTENBERG, by LAURENT TAILHEDE Poet's Biography First Line: I have ascended the river of the years Last Line: And my molten voice, rhythmic with prophecy. Subject(s): Abandonment; Love; Rivers; Desertion | ||||||||
The Laboratory of Faust at Wittenberg I have ascended the river of the years And, my heart ravished with sublime intent, Abandoned Hades and the holy meres Where the soul grants the calm its soft consent. The splendour of my breast Time cannot fade: I hold forever the high stalwart charms, Eternal widow and eternal maid, Glory of Greece, amid war's black alarms. O Faust, I come to you from the All-Mother's breast, For you abandon, on Chimæra's crest, The sleeping gods enshrouded in their gloom. I bring to your love, in olden skies set free, My throat whose lilies ages dare not doom, And my molten voice, rhythmic with prophecy. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...GOING AWAY ANY TIME SOON by JOHN ASHBERY SPEAKING OF LOSS by LUCILLE CLIFTON ROTHKO'S LAST MEDITATION by BOB HICOK HYBRIDS OF WAR: A MORALITY POEM: 2.
