FREED, by LALIA MITCHELL THORNTON First Line: I have supped with fear and choked Last Line: I have paid, and freed the pawn. Subject(s): Fear; Freedom; Soul; Liberty | ||||||||
I have supped with Fear and choked On the black bread of Despair; I have made my bed with unholy Dread And the child conceived was Care. But I am a free born soul, I will fasten my door with a bar: I will pour me wine from a grape divine, And light my room with a star. I will smooth my sheets and wait, I will lift my voice and call, And the gloomy past shall no shadow cast For I have done with it all. I have feared to wake and weep, But now I shall love the dawn: Sun, shine on my head, I have requiem said, I have paid, and freed the pawn. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LOVE THE WILD SWAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS AFTER TENNYSON by AMBROSE BIERCE QUARTET IN F MAJOR by WILLIAM MEREDITH CROSS THAT LINE by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE EMANCIPATION by ELIZABETH ALEXANDER FORGIVE by LALIA MITCHELL THORNTON |
