MOUNTAIN INSOMNIA, by ELSA THUESEN First Line: All through the black edges of night Last Line: And I slept again. Subject(s): Mountains; Night; Hills; Downs (great Britain); Bedtime | ||||||||
All through the black edges of night And through the short star hours The rats tinkered in the willow tree. The crickets ground out their song And coyotes howled with hoarse throats. The black carcass of a deer hung Cold from the branch, its horns Were like a thick fork. Just as the stars twinkled 'Adios' The sky grew blue white And I slept again. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE |
