INDIANA BEECH WOODS: OCTOBER, by ETHEL ARNOLD TILDEN First Line: Flakes of copper and gold Last Line: Out of the glistening beechwood. Subject(s): Beech Trees; October; Trees | ||||||||
Flakes of copper and gold Drop from the burning beeches -- Tremble and quiver and float Down through the shimmering sunlight -- Tremble and quiver and drop -- Shiver -- and then lie still. Blue birds with scarlet breasts Flutter and shimmer and float Against the shining beeches, Beeches yellow like gold, Burnished like brass in the sunlight, Flutter and shimmer and float -- Shiver -- then drift to the southward, Out of the glistening beechwood. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE PROBLEM OF DESCRIBING TREES by ROBERT HASS THE GREEN CHRIST by ANDREW HUDGINS MIDNIGHT EDEN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN REFLECTION OF THE WOOD by LEONIE ADAMS THE LIFE OF TREES by DORIANNE LAUX ACCEPTANCE by ETHEL ARNOLD TILDEN |
