THE PASSING OF YEGOR, by C. K. TOREN First Line: You have not long to live - yegor Last Line: Back -- fading like a star. Subject(s): Death; Dead, The | ||||||||
You have not long to live -- Yegor. The night spreads her wings westward and the wind blows from the land. This is your last hour Yegor, the eternal, undying, unfading, deathless hour. It is your evidence. Love it, Yegor, and be not afraid to part with it. I shall not worship Yegor, nor weep your passing, no more than I weep and worship the rise and fall of the tides. Death needs no worship, Death needs no weeping. Death needs understanding. Death needs re-dedication and the fellowship of the sinner. Soon, Yegor, you shall understand the contradiction of the contradiction, you will fade back to timeless time, before you were erected in blood and bone, to the whirling movement of dustless dust formless form, being in becoming. You shall know the unknowable in the unknowable and the sound in the silence. You will go back, Yegor, Back -- fading like a star. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A FRIEND KILLED IN THE WAR by ANTHONY HECHT FOR JAMES MERRILL: AN ADIEU by ANTHONY HECHT TARANTULA: OR THE DANCE OF DEATH by ANTHONY HECHT CHAMPS D?ÇÖHONNEUR by ERNEST HEMINGWAY NOTE TO REALITY by TONY HOAGLAND |
