THANKSGIVING, by                    
First Line: I'm giving thanks today for many things!
Last Line: By that firm hand that gives what things are best.

I'm giving thanks today for many things:
For air that I accept as part of me, --
The sun's rays giving light by which I see;
For water quenching thirst from mountain springs
Or adding music to the brook that sings,
The character sketched by a growing tree,
The mystery of moving waves at sea,
The thrill that color in a flower brings.
For all such things as are to me denied
Because I'm a part of life made manifest
Through Laws of God that will not be defied
When my desires are thoughtlessly expressed.
I'm giving thanks these, too, are swept aside
By that firm Hand that gives what things are best.
