THERE IS GREAT MUSIC, by GRACE TOWNSEND First Line: There is great music and I cannot play Last Line: "good-night,"" in your lovely way you said." Subject(s): Farewell; Parting | ||||||||
There is great music and I cannot play There is rare beauty and I cannot sing Had I an all-powered God I should pray But I heavily breathe the air And wistfully smile at you. I want nothing, there is nothing I could bring, Too long as the common man I've run But you you have the rarity, power of my lost wishes, My soul that was never born Do you see me, do you know I understand I whimsically smile at you. "Goodnight, I enjoyed the evening," I said And you wished you were far away instead As the very young intuitively slip from That they know not of. But by their youth Must leave their sweet and natural kindness. "Good-night," in your lovely way you said. | Other Poems of Interest...LEAVING DELOS by JOHN HOLLANDER THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN STUDY #2 FOR B.B.L. by JUNE JORDAN WATCHING THE NEEDLEBOATS AT SAN SABBA by JAMES JOYCE |
