Driven to achievement by youth and love,
two met amid the polar waste,
where each knew the other for a hero.
They spoke of many things, felt themselves brothers.
When it was time to part Hidoyeshi said:
I'm glad you're a real patriot,
not one of these internationalists.
To hell with those! said Bradford.
While hands met in warm farewell
word came from the air: War!
Clasped together, under the snow,
like carcasses with horns locked,
two bodies drift.
