Last Line: The rain has smothered in its silver hood.
Subject(s): Rain

Resentfully, I listen to the rain
Washing away the scarlet of the year
As midnight tears once washed away the clear
Heart-image of my love. With similar pain,
With similar cherishing of grief again,
The rain upon the pointed roofs I hear;
Derisive laughter ... a taunt, a jeer,
Strums in the great drops leaping in the lane.
But I have no will to stab the back of Time --
Not even strength to pull him backward by
His snarly curls; nor would I, if I could;
For that wild love is gone -- gone like a chime
Housed in a ruined clock, gone like a cry
The rain has smothered in its silver hood.
