A BILIOUS DAY, by AMELIA WOODWARD TRUESDELL First Line: One day I stalked, when fate had balked Last Line: The same I'll recommend. Subject(s): Fate; Friendship; Destiny | |||
One day I stalked, when Fate had balked And things were in a fix, With brows of gloom and thoughts of the tomb, On the shores of the river Styx. "I'm dead," said I; "No more I'll try This hateful race to win; So Charon, dear, your boat bring here And kindly take me in." Contemptuously he said to me, With eyes askance the while, "A healthy ghost! Back to your post, A potion take for bile." The advice was good and it has stood The test of many a friend; And so for you when you are blue, The same I'll recommend. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ATTEMPTING TO ANSWER DAVID IGNATOW'S QUESTION by ROBERT BLY FROST AND HIS ENEMIES by ROBERT BLY THE WORLDS IN THIS WORLD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR UNABLE TO FIND by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR TO HELEN KELLER - HUMANITARIAN, SOCIAL DEMOCRAT, GREAT SOUL by EDWIN MARKHAM DOMESDAY BOOK: FINDING OF THE BODY by EDGAR LEE MASTERS WE COME BACK by KENNETH REXROTH THE WAKING (2) by THEODORE ROETHKE 87 CASA GRANDE by AMELIA WOODWARD TRUESDELL |
