AN OLD BACHELOR, by AMELIA WOODWARD TRUESDELL First Line: O love is a jade of a wayward life Last Line: As for me, I will not have the creature about. Subject(s): Courtship; Love - Loss Of; Single People; Bachelors; Unmarried People | ||||||||
O love is a jade of a wayward life; Sometimes she is gone at the whiff of a breath; Again she survives the most savage strife; Then often she scoffs in the face of death. Sometimes she will fight at the drop of the hat; And then she will take your cuffs and blows As tame as a household tabby-cat, And likes to be led by a string in her nose. Sometimes at the turn of hand, she is dead; Again at your tears she will laughingly flout. She's enough to drive a man out of his head; As for me, I will not have the creature about. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE ODD WOMAN by MADELINE DEFREES THE RIVALS by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON COUNSEIL TO A BACHELER by MARIANNE MOORE MY KIND OF MAN by ANNE WALDMAN THE TWO OLD BACHELORS by EDWARD LEAR THE LAIRD O' COCKPEN by CAROLINA OLIPHANT NAIRNE A CONSISTENT GIRL by FRANKLIN PIERCE ADAMS 87 CASA GRANDE by AMELIA WOODWARD TRUESDELL |
