LOVE AGLOW, by BLANCHE CHALFANT TUCKER First Line: Just we alone are in the world tonight Last Line: Is life's short span, as moments go. Subject(s): Love | ||||||||
Just we alone are in the world tonight, Here on the peaceful summit of a hill. Let us not think of else beside our love -- Tomorrow is a day beyond our will. Enveloped in the radiance of night And love, I would that we, forgetting, might Be by the world forgot, ecstatically To dwell in Arcady by day and night. And then! . . . Life is so short! The Great Beyond So wrapped in mystery . . . How can we know? To tear apart a rose and see its heart Is life's short span, as moments go. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD FLOWERS FOR MY FRIEND by BLANCHE CHALFANT TUCKER |
