YOUTH AND NIGHT, by WILBUR UNDERWOOD Poet's Biography First Line: Under the shining stars Last Line: Of this strange shadowed world. Subject(s): Beauty; Bodies; Night; Peace; Youth; Bedtime | ||||||||
Under the shining stars Through depths of ether hurled We lie upon the meadow-lands Of this strange shadowed world. I and my comrades here In the infinite dim light, No star as fair as the beauty of Our bodies bare and white. The peace of the ancient earth Upon our being lies, The vastness of the starry void Is deep within our eyes. And through us sweeps the tide Of stainless, primal joy, The surging ecstasy that fills The naked heart of a boy. Under the shining stars, Through depths of ether hurled, We lie upon the meadow-lands Of this strange shadowed world. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN MIDSUMMER NIGHT by WILBUR UNDERWOOD |
