THE LORD SPOKE, by CHARLES VAN LERBERGHE Poet's Biography First Line: The lord said to his child Last Line: Be it all your truth. Subject(s): Advice; Knowledge; Truth; Voices | ||||||||
The Lord said to his child: Go, go to the clear fresh garden of the angels Where apples glisten and roses gleam. It is yours. It is your kingdom. But wake naught save the flower Of things; Leave the fruit on the branch. Do not analyze gladness. Seek not to know The mystery of earth, The enigma of being. Heed not the voice that lures you In the depths of the shadow, The voice of temptation, Serpent or siren voice, Or the voice of cooing doves In the shaded groves of love. Remain unwitting. Think not, only sing. All knowledge is vain; Love beauty only; Be it all your truth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VOICES OF THE AIR by KATHERINE MANSFIELD FIVE EASY POEMS; FOR ANNE-MARIE ALBIACH: 4 (MEZZA VOICE) by MICHAEL PALMER A SINGING VOICE by KENNETH REXROTH A VOICE FROM THE SWEAT-SHOPS (A HYMN WITH RESPONSES) by LOUIS UNTERMEYER OFFERING TO A DEAD FRIEND by CHARLES VAN LERBERGHE |
