WITH HER THERE, by CHARLES VAN LERBERGHE Poet's Biography First Line: With her rose and shadowed beauty Last Line: And love bore a flame. Subject(s): Love | ||||||||
With her rose and shadowed beauty, Her clear goodness, her love's might, In her little darkened chamber She rests, and it is light. Like a strange sister, Beauty, with folded wings, Dreams of a fair land; She is fashioned of frail things And holds a flower in her hand. Goodness, her comrade of old, Sleeps on her virgin breasts; In her hand, under her curls of gold, A pale pearl rests. But Love alert and smiling Into her slumber came; Stirred her soul with soft beguiling And Love bore a flame. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD OFFERING TO A DEAD FRIEND by CHARLES VAN LERBERGHE |
