THE DAY IS DONE, by CRELLE KALB VICKERS First Line: The day is done - and now Last Line: The day is done. Subject(s): Blessings; Evening; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
The day is done -- and now The moon has followed up The sunset's glowing. The night is on. The seeds sown through the day Are thriving -- growing. God scatters dew upon them with a blessing, A thing He gives to earth with tender care. His Hand with beauty ever is caressing; He puts a special hue or fragrance there. When night is gone and dawn wakes in its glory And rouses up the sun in morning's hour, And this same sun bursts forth in brilliant fury To coax the seeds to light by its great power, The love of all that's good and great and holy -- The spirit of His gentle love and care -- Wells in my heart, and then I know it -- truly -- That God is love and He is everywhere. We know that this same Hand that made the violets And fixed each petal on the dainty rose Has raised the mountains in majestic glory To lie forevermore in sweet repose. We know this world would e'er be void of beauty, Of love and kindness toward our fellowman If God were not, and giving thanks Should be a loving duty -- whene'er -- The day is done. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE THE BOTTLES AND THE WINE by GEORGE SANTAYANA ON GEORGE HERBERT'S BOOK, THE TEMPLE, SENT TO A GENTLEWOMAN by RICHARD CRASHAW |
