THIS MY PRAYER, by TANCREDE DE VISAN First Line: O misery Last Line: O sister sorrow, speak thy soft decree! Subject(s): Pain; Prayer; Suffering; Misery | ||||||||
O MISERY, One pallid ray that falls from thee Breaks on my brow and charms my cheeks As dawn of vernal Sabbath day. Thy mild aurora lights my waking love and seeks With paradisal peace to bear my soul away. I feel the rose Its virgin leaves and buds unclose Within my bosom's empery, And fear not now thou art with me. O Misery As sister thou hast come to be Though, Misery, Tears fringe thy lunar tapestry. In tender drops thy twilight falls upon my brow. And I hear now The step of night Upon the bank of my despair alight. Unto thy shrine Deep in the dell of incense-dropping fruits and flowers A peal divine Calls me with dulcet whisper through the silent hours. I feel its spirit's wings in succour circle me; It is my destiny.
