WHERE HEROES SLEEP, by L. ELEANOR VOSWINKEL First Line: In picardy the shadows creep Last Line: In picardy. Subject(s): Death; Heroism; Shadows; Dead, The; Heroes; Heroines | ||||||||
In Picardy the shadows creep Across the fields where heroes sleep; And poppies flaunt their gay attire As crimson as the flaming fire, Or heroes' blood whose watch they keep. All still they lie in that last sleep: Soft through the trees the light winds sweep With gentle touch each breathing lyre, In Picardy. Her loving watch the moon will keep, On that vast field where heroes sleep; No pomp nor fame did they desire, Ah, no, their hope was greater, higher, For freedom's cause they held life cheap, In Picardy. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CONFESSION OF ST.
