THE WOMAN IN MY ARMS, by CHARLES LOUIS HENRY WAGNER First Line: As the soft white down of the wild duck's wing Last Line: As tribute to womanhood's worth. Subject(s): Women; Women - Captives | |||
As the soft white down of the wild duck's wing Or the gossamer webs which the spiders fling In filmy tangle beside the spring So light are the weights of love; And my weakling arms are as bands of steel When my sweetheart's form in their clasp I feel, For the gods give strength to a lover's zeal And smile from their heights above. For my loved one's kiss and her soft caress Dispel every tinge of my weariness Brought on by a day of bitterness In the marts where the slavish toil; And her gentle voice with its liquid strain Seems Lethean like to each seeming pain, And drives from my mind every trouble profane And thought of the day's turmoil. Here's a kiss, my love, with a silent prayer, Which, granted, shall yield you blessings so fair That naught with your happiness e'er shall compare While God gives you life on earth; My arms I'll extend to encircle your soul, A refuge for you when storm billows roll, My heart shall I keep for your fullest control As tribute to womanhood's worth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...INTO CAPTIVITY by ALEXANDER BROWN ROSE DOLORES by ISABEL ECCLESTONE MACKAY CAPTIVE WOMAN AND THE LIGHT: 1 by MARJORIE AGOSIN CAPTIVE WOMAN AND THE LIGHT: 2 by MARJORIE AGOSIN AFTER TWENTY-ONE YEARS by SUZANNE OWENS MY HEART BEATS IN WILD RAPTURE FOR YOU: COME PREPARED TO STAY FOREVER by SUZANNE OWENS SHEEP AND FODDER by SUZANNE OWENS SUFFRAGE, 1917: IMPRISONED FOR OBSTRUCTING TRAFFIC by SUZANNE OWENS A DROP OF INK by CHARLES LOUIS HENRY WAGNER |
