SEA FLIGHT, by HELEN WALLER First Line: The sea has heard your challenge. Here the wide Last Line: To conquer her unchallenged mystery. Subject(s): Sea; Ocean | ||||||||
The sea has heard your challenge. Here the wide Blue wings of shadows measure every reach Of space and time above her thundering tide With storms that trail their havoc up the beach. As questing sea bird lifts, above the stream, A quivering breast to naked blades of spray, Your craft, unsheathed to darkness and a dream, Soars with the dawn into the living day. Now, from your place so near the mounting sun, Sea water is an emerald in the sand, And all the earth a shining heap to one Who holds them in the hollow of a hand. Yet, you will seek again this untried sea To conquer her unchallenged mystery. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HALL OF OCEAN LIFE by JOHN HOLLANDER JULY FOURTH BY THE OCEAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS BOATS IN A FOG by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE FIGUREHEAD by LEONIE ADAMS FOR YOU THE NIGHT (THOUGHTS FOR A SLEEPING CHILD) by HELEN WALLER |
