Full life, sweet rest, great love that cannot cease -- Surely Bach saw the beatific host! As the deep waters of the Holy Ghost On young Mozart rained purity and ease -- 'Twas a full heart, God-centered and at peace; While, from that awful gloom where souls are lost, Or raised to the height of hope, confessed and crossed, The vision of Beethoven sought release, Taking each beam of grace that pierced his world To light the fearsome steps from hell to Heaven And paint the hard-won victory over death! ... And now upon life's battle Franck has hurled The mystery of Christ: yea, death is riven, And nature one with God, at Nazareth! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LINER NOTES TO AN IMAGINARY PLAYLIST by TERRANCE HAYES VARIATIONS: 13 by CONRAD AIKEN BELIEVE, BELIEVE by BOB KAUFMAN ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN MUSIC by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES THE POWER OF MUSIC by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES THE LAST COMMUNION; IN MEMORY OF MY FATHER, WILFRID WARD by LEO WARD |
