ON THE GARDEN WALL, by HELEN FIELD WATSON First Line: Sometimes shadows seem to me Last Line: Better than reality. Subject(s): Reality; Shadows | ||||||||
Sometimes shadows seem to me Lovely as reality, Lacking bounds, yet well-defined, Calling deeper thoughts to mind. Now the phantom elm-twig's fall Slanting on my garden wall. Two dimensions I can see Much more clearly than the three. Just as dainty as the real, Softer than the things we feel, Often shadows seem to me Better than reality. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE ANIMAL INSIDE THE ANIMAL by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN DRIVING ALONGSIDE THE HOUSANTONIC RIVER ALONE ON A RAINY APRIL NIGHT by WILLIAM MATTHEWS NOCTURNE IN A MINOR KEY by CONRAD AIKEN SONATA IN PATHOS by CONRAD AIKEN I LOOKED FOR LIFE AND DID A SHADOW SEE by JAMES GALVIN A MORNING PRAYER (FOR A TEACHER) by HELEN FIELD WATSON |
