COMPASSION, by RALPH ERNEST WEBBER First Line: I cannot reap a profit's gain Last Line: And end the night in shame, afraid. Subject(s): Begging & Beggars; Compassion; Homeless; Hunger | ||||||||
I cannot reap a profit's gain, While millions suffer want and woe, And face the bitter sleet and rain Devoid of all the warmth I know. I cannot rest while mile on mile Of homeless march down road and street; While thousands stand at half-closed doors And beg a scrap of bread to eat. I cannot sleep while through the night, In dives of sin that we have made, Our youth stand in the stench of sin And end the night in shame, afraid. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SEVERAL MEASURES FOR THE LITTLE LOST by NORMAN DUBIE THE CORNUCOPIA OF RED AND GREEN COMFITS by AMY LOWELL BIOLUMINESCENCE: 1.
