YOUR PICNICS, by FLORENCE WENNER Last Line: You took fried chicken every time! Subject(s): Travel; Journeys; Trips | ||||||||
Your picnics were the best! They made Most other people's outings pale, For when we sought the cool pine shade You took fried chicken without fail! If we were with another crowd Who had meat loaf or roasted beef, We almost had to cry out loud: "Of picnic thrills, you've skipped the chief!" You gauged enjoyment's rare degrees With a discernment sure and nice; You knew the piquancy of cheese And ham baked with alluring spice. But more -- you knew what children like To set a day to perfect rhyme -- And so, on picnic, trip or hike You took fried chicken every time! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RICHARD, WHAT'S THAT NOISE? by RICHARD HOWARD LOOKING FOR THE GULF MOTEL by RICHARD BLANCO RIVERS INTO SEAS by LYNDA HULL DESTINATIONS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE ONE WHO WAS DIFFERENT by RANDALL JARRELL THE CONFESSION OF ST.
