REUNION, by MARY WINTER WERE First Line: When the red embers on the hearth glow bright Last Line: And I am free of earth, and earth's despair. Subject(s): Dreams; Nightmares | ||||||||
When the red embers on the hearth glow bright, And the snow-muffled world in silence lies; When wrapped in dreams so wrought with mysteries The sleeping scarce draw breath, I take my flight Out through the shadow, out, out into the night, The deep, broad night encompassing the skies With filaments of silver, where, full of eyes, The heavens swing, a galaxy of light. Gone is the close shut room; the lingering fire Holds for me now no comfort, though the heat Glows kindly on my body in its chair. My spirit wings in fullness of desire Up through the starry aisles my love to meet, And I am free of earth, and earth's despair. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS |
