THE SAVIOR, by SAMUEL WESLEY Poet's Biography First Line: Behold the savior of mankind Last Line: Was ever love like thine? Subject(s): Jesus Christ | ||||||||
Behold the Saviour of mankind Nailed to the shameful tree; How vast the love that Him inclined To bleed and die for me. Hark! how He groans, while nature shakes, And earth's strong pillars bend! The Temple's veil asunder breaks, The solid marbles rend. 'Tis finished! now the ransom's paid, "Receive My soul!" He cries; See--how He bows His sacred head! He bows His head and dies! But soon He'll break death's iron chain, And in full glory shine. O Lamb of God! was ever pain-- Was ever love like Thine? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GREEN CHRIST by ANDREW HUDGINS MEDITATION ON SAVIORS by ROBINSON JEFFERS COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK TO A WREN ON CALVARY by LARRY LEVIS THE TRANSFIGURATION by EDWIN MUIR SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
