I shall not take the bitter cup That drags my spirit down, I shall not take the road of men That leads to disrenown. But give me the cup of life to hold, To guard for all mankind; That when the years have made them old, The truths in life they'll find. Ah! Blessed Spirit, lift me up, Cleanse me from pain and sin Hold to my lips this blessed cup And let Thy life flow in! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ONE VOLUME MISSING by RITA DOVE READING HOLDERLIN ON THE PATIO WITH THE AID OF A DICTIONARY by RITA DOVE BANGLA DESH: 2.
