THROUGH FIELDS OF MOONLIGHT, by RAELENE NEWELL WHITE First Line: An eager hound through fields of moonlight ran Last Line: Beauty forgotten for little hares of rest? Subject(s): Animals; Dogs | ||||||||
An eager hound through fields of moonlight ran And etched his beauty on the autumn night. Soon he was followed by a drunken man Whose feckless shadow lurched into the light. The hound who gave so much to beauty saw No beauty for his nose was all to him, But man, though drunken, saw it on a paw, Plunged after it and called, "Come back here, Jim!" O blind white beauty of the hound and moon, May only those who follow beauty see? Supposing man on some amazing noon, Or April dawn, or autumn night, should be A white hound running down the west, Beauty forgotten for little hares of rest? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SENTIMENTAL DANGERS by ANDREW HUDGINS SHOOTING THE DOG by JUNE JORDAN AFTER AN ILLNESS, WALKING THE DOG by JANE KENYON DANCING WITH THE DOG by SUSAN KENNEDY TO THE RETURNED GIRLS by FRANKLIN PIERCE ADAMS |
