YOUTH REPRESSED, by MARY N. S. WHITELEY First Line: They have brought the bird to earth Last Line: How high a bird may go. Subject(s): Birds; Wings; Youth | ||||||||
They have brought the bird to earth, Broken the wing Still delicate from birth. No other thing So poignantly seems to touch The heart, and bring Consummation of despair, As this now known Of the bird laid broken there, This blight on the thing ungrown Before its time Had come, or the nestling flown. And now they have brought it low, Which never knew How high a bird may go. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN CLOSED EPISODE by MARY N.
