CABIN AT TARLETON, by NELLIE HURLBURT WHITNEY First Line: The cabin drowsed in calm content Last Line: But undisturbed, we drowsed in turn. Subject(s): Solitude; Loneliness | |||
The cabin drowsed in calm content After winter's imprisonment; Windows blinked and doors yawned wide As long-closed shutters were pushed aside To let the musty odors loose And welcome scent of balsam and spruce. Far away a loon complained Its wailing by the wind sustained, Then the cabin came awake And stood on guard by the whispering lake, Murmurs rose from tree and fern, But undisturbed, we drowsed in turn. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV IN A VACANT HOUSE by PHILIP LEVINE SUNDAY ALONE IN A FIFTH FLOOR APARTMENT, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SILENCE LIKE COOL SAND by PAT MORA THE HONEY BEAR by EILEEN MYLES LAKE MOODS by NELLIE HURLBURT WHITNEY |
