Who loves water should kneel at noon beside A spring underneath a tamarisk tree After blistering winds from burning sands And light that sears the sight pitilessly. Let firm cupped hands dip deep and drink each drop In ecstasy. Forget the hours of heat, And like believers before the sacred mosques Make cool ablutions, preparations for prayer, Then kneel once more, murmuring Bismillah To Allah, the merciful and compassionate. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES A LITHUANIAN ELEGY by ROBERT KELLY CABIN AT TARLETON by NELLIE HURLBURT WHITNEY |
