Subject(s): Sailing & Sailors

I loved a lad with summer eyes,
A sailor lad in blue.
He sailed away one winter day;
Now what am I to do?

He wrote to me from Singapore,
From Peiping and Shanghai;
And now the moon that covers him
Sits in a frosty sky

And watches pillaging and death
Oh, can he be the same --
My sailor lad who loved me
And now is but a name ...

Grant me one boon, O crystal moon,
In the land of By-and-By,
Will you carry a message (of stars) for me
To a lad in far Shanghai?
