MAP OF AN UNKNOWN REGION, by IRENE WILDE First Line: Regard this matchless chart, the body, trace Last Line: Its shy inhabitant remains a stranger. | ||||||||
Regard this matchless chart, the body, trace The streams and tributaries, veined in blue Across its pink and coral surface, view The longitudes of bone in ordered space. Observe the boundaries of air that race In sapphire surf about its capes, construe The legend which the great cartographer drew Within the circle of an eye's embrace. These bearings designate a realm unknown, Mysterious as the moon, besieged with thunder Of muffled jungle rhythms hinting danger. A Balearic loveliness is strewn Across its beaches intricate with wonder -- Its shy inhabitant remains a stranger. | Other Poems of Interest...THE MAGIC FLUTE by IRENE WILDE THE SILLER CROUN by SUSANNA BLAMIRE THE SLEEP by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING LESSER EPISTLES: TO BERNARD LINTOTT by JOHN GAY THE FOURTH OF JULY by JOHN PIERPONT WITH ILLUSTRATION TO GRAY'S POEMS by WILLIAM BLAKE |
