THE SPIRIT OF THE NORTH, by OSCAR WILLIAMS First Line: The sea blood slumbering in our veins Last Line: That the old north spirit moves again. Subject(s): North, The; Seashore; Waves; Beach; Coast; Shore | ||||||||
THE sea blood slumbering in our veins Through the life we've led on hills and plains Has caught the sound of waves once more That break upon the northern shore. And a thousand years are swept away The Vikings' time was yesterday We cannot live in land-locked bowers, The sea is ours! The sea is ours! And we'll scour the seas in our ships of steam, And our merchantmen with their sails shall gleam, And it shall come to all men's ken That the old north spirit moves again. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SEASHORE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS EASTERN LONG ISLAND by MARVIN BELL THE WIND IS BLOWING WEST by JOSEPH CERAVOLO IF SOMETHING SHOULD HAPPEN by LUCILLE CLIFTON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER EMPTIES INTO THE GULF by LUCILLE CLIFTON GEOGRAPHY AS WARNING by MADELINE DEFREES POWER FAILURE by MADELINE DEFREES CITY AT TWILIGHT by OSCAR WILLIAMS |
