Subject(s): Key, Francis Scott (1780-1843); National Song - United States; Watergate; American National Anthem

Oh, say can you hear
On the Watergate tapes
That I gave to the Judge
How I lied like a trooper?
When the chips are all down
I guess no one escapes;
I've a date at high noon,
And I'm no Gary Cooper.
If they're going to impeach
There's no gun I can reach,
So I may as well quit
With a heart-rending speech.
Oh, say does that flag
That I've dirtied still wave?
If I play my cards right,
There's some loot I can save.

Oh, this is the crunch,
I may have to resign,
But those bums are dead wrong
If they think I'm defeated.
When they pension me off
At the end of the line
And my taxes are paid,
They can (passage deleted).
I'm not out of the woods,
But I've still got the goods,
Though I may go to jail
With the rest of the hoods.
George Washington's dead,
Like the pledge that I gave,
But if he were alive
He would turn in his grave.
