WHITE HUNGER, by
First Line: Softly the silly flocks of snow
Last Line: Leaving no golden crumbs behind.
Subject(s): Birds; Hunger; White (color)

Softly the silly flocks of snow
Drop wool across the meadowlands;
I dig my frightened thoughts below
Seeking the grass's lost green hands.

Did ever crimson flagon-rose
Make Summer drunk with elder wine?
My heart is desolate for those
Blue days of phlox and columbine.

I kneel among the vanished bees,
Starving for color in my mind,
Since frost has eaten up the trees
Leaving no golden crumbs behind.
