Young April is spending her punctual gold In garden and swamp and lea; After dark days of frost and cold, I would a mendicant be. Following after with empty sack To gather from her largesse Enough to warm me when winter comes; Season of my duress. Crocus, dandelion, daffodil, Spice-bush and marigold, Flowering currant, forsythia, Beauty and wealth untold. Golden song of the hermit thrush; Gold in the sunset sky While listening and gazing with bated breath. Lo!
