CANDLE LIGHTS, by EDNA ALLEN WRIGHT First Line: When my windows blaze with light Last Line: They bring to me. Subject(s): Candles | ||||||||
When my windows blaze with light and warmth and cheer, No one knows that shadows dark may linger near. But when darkness spreads a pall and lights go out, I light my unseen candles my fears to rout. Yellow ones bring courage back; Their steady glow Restores my fast-failing faith and cheers me so. Candles white are prayers to me; When burning bright They seem to bring me peace and hope through darkest night When I'm humbled and my pride goes trailing low, Many candles red and tall give cheery glow. When loneliness besets me, small candles blue Light for me the lonely hour I'm living through. I go about my lighted rooms where candles burn, And feel my courage rise again and hope return. Colorful candles flaming unseen may be, But peace and joy and gladness they bring to me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CANDLE by KATHERINE MANSFIELD SAVING TALLOW by BARBARA GUEST RIDDLE: A CANDLE by MOTHER GOOSE WORDLY WISE (5) by MOTHER GOOSE BLESSING THE LIGHTS by ALTER ABELSON I LIFT MY CANDLE by ELLEN ANDERSON |
