WE do not take a car at all, and yet we traveling go. In every kind of foreign land, through desert and through snow; The queerest kind of children we meet along the way, But we are busy studyingwe cannot stop for play. We do not take a ship at all, and yet we sail the seas, The North and South and East and West, in every sort of breeze. Our journeying is very swift, we must be back to-day, We came out here to study, so we cannot stop for play. We do not take an air ship to go into the sky, And yet we visit in the air and watch the moon go by. The sky is very pretty but we haven't time to stay, We're studying this all in a bookit isn't only play. Safe in our seats with book in hand, We travel swiftly through the land, We sail the sea and sky and all, And never fear to sink or fall. We make far journeys every day, But never stay abroad to play. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RICHARD, WHAT'S THAT NOISE? by RICHARD HOWARD LOOKING FOR THE GULF MOTEL by RICHARD BLANCO RIVERS INTO SEAS by LYNDA HULL DESTINATIONS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE ONE WHO WAS DIFFERENT by RANDALL JARRELL THE CONFESSION OF ST.
