IN the grassy meadow school
All the flowers learn the rule,
Every flower stands up straight,
Not a one is cross or late,
Straggling in the schoolhouse gate.

Not a flower has a book;
But the teacher, Meadow Brook,
Tells the lesson all the day,
Talking in her meadow way—
(You may think it's only play!)

But it's serious, indeed,
Teaching every flower and seed.
For the flowers in a row
Learn what but the wisest know,
That the best thing is to grow!
